We design and manufacture handblown glass lighting and objects from our studios in Healdsburg, Northern California and the Czech Republic. Every SkLO product is made with a deep appreciation for the richness of its organic material and the historical craft tradition it embodies.
SkLO designs demonstrate careful attention to detail, and a commitment to achieving the simplest expression of beauty. This belief in simplicity and design discipline is always balanced by a deep respect for the raw material, and closeness to the maker. There’s an inherent primal brutality and unexpectedness in glassblowing, and in Czech glass in particular. Masters of the craft make manipulation of molten glass appear effortless, as they employ generations of skillful technique. Our designs celebrate this process in their subtle irregularities, making each one a unique reflection of its long history.
You can’t tell glass what to do. The unique ability to capture moments in time within glass is what makes the material special.
Spheres of handblown Czech glass with molten, organically shaped open mouths on the underside. Suspended on rigid brass tube stems, the Float Pendants are blown without the use of moulds, so that the spherical shades are intentionally imperfect in their form.
Large spheres of handblown Czech glass suspended on rigid brass stems. Two glass sizes available. A custom brass socket assembly through one side holds the light bulb and is connected to the canopy at the ceiling with a length of exposed fabric-wrapped electrical cord. Each glass sphere is blown by hand without the use of moulds, and so is slightly imperfect in shape.
SKLO Float Vessel - The SkLO float vessels are organic spheres of Czech glass with broken flame polished mouths. They are entirely free-blown, produced without the use of moulds to shape them. The tops are given a slight ripple where they are dipped twice into the molten glass, and the mouths broken from the blowpipe and fire polished while hot.
SKLO Echo Vessel - The SkLO echo vessels are rounded asymmetrical shapes of handblown Czech glass in transparent colors with dimpled voids at their tops. The vessels are mirror-finished from the inside, giving them their distinct metallic reflective surface. Intentionally off-center, each echo evokes its handblown origins.
Fluid glass brought to life - The glass Wrap is an expression of the skill of the Czech glassblowers who produce the SkLO glass. Once the glass is prepared on the blower’s pipe, the form of the Wrap is achieved in a single, immediate fluid move. No two are ever exactly alike.
SKLO Pool Wallpiece Discs of handblown glass with open mouths at the center where the pieces are broken from the glass master’s pipe and flame polished, giving each a unique detail. SkLO Pool Wallpieces are hung with handmade steel wall hooks. The steel wall hooks come in two different depths, 3" and 4" (75 and 100mm) to allow for slight overlapping of the discs. Unless otherwise specified, a mix of 3" and 4" hooks is provided.
